Effects of Wenxiao Decoction on TNF αand IL 6 in Patients with Carotid Atherosclerotic Unstable Plaque

Abstract：Objective To investigate the effects of Wenxiao decoction(WXD)on tumor necrosis factor (TNF)αand interleukin (IL) 6 in patients with carotid atherosclerotic(CAS)instable plaque.Methods Seventy eight patients with CAS instable plaque were ran-domly divided into two groups:The control group(n=39)treated with routine treatment,and the treatment group(n=39)treated with WXD in the basis of routine treatment for 24 weeks.The contents of TNF αand IL 6 were detected by enzymelinked immu-nosorbent assay(ELISA).The carotid artery plaque was evaluated by color Doppler ultrasound.The liver function,kidney function, creatine kinase were measured.Results Ful analysis set(FAS)was 78 cases,per protocol set(PPS)was 69 cases.After 24 weeks of treatment,the intima media thickness (IMT),Crouse total scores,TNF αand IL 6 levels were improved compared with before treatment(P<0.05),which in treatment group was better than that in control group(P<0.05).The number of unstable plaque had a tendency to reduce in two groups.But there was no differences between two groups(P>0.05).FAS statistics results agreed with the PPS.There was no differences in liver function,kidney function,creatine kinase between two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion WXD can inhibit the expression of TNF αand IL 6,and benefit from the stability of atherosclerotic plaque.
