Abstract:Objective To compare the rate of target organ damages of carotid atherosclerosis(CAS)with Chinese medicine syn-drome differentiation, and to find the objective indicators for the standard traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)syndrome differentiation of CAS.Methods Through document reference and expert consultation, syndrome differentiation of carotid atherosclerosis were di-agnosed.By clinical epidemiological investigation, target organ damages of 511 patients with CAS were observed and compared.Re-sults Insufficiency of kidney essence and phlegm was the most common type in patients with acure cerebral vascular accident, while insufficiency of qi and phlegm type was the second.Insufficiency of liver yin and kidney yin was the most common type in patients with renal insufficiency, insufficiency of kidney essence and blood stasis type was the second.Insufficiency of kidney essence and phlegm was the most common type in patients with peripheral vascular disease, insufficiency of kidney essence and blood stasis type was the second.Insufficiency of liver yin and kidney yin was the most common type in patients with peripheral neuropathy, insufficiency of kid-ney essence and phlegm type was the second.Insufficiency of kidney essence and blood stasis was the most common type in pa-tients with fundus lesions, insufficiency of kidney essence and qi stagnation type was the second(P<0.05).Conclusion The com-plicated with acure cerebral vascular accident, renal insufficiency, peripheral vascular disease, peripheral neuropathy and fundus le-sions can be used as an objective indicator of carotid atherosclerosis for TCM syndrome differentiation,so as to provide a certain ba-sis for choosing therapy and herbs.
