Correlation of Traditional Chinese Medicine Constitution Types with Atherosclerosis in Middle and Old Aged Patients with Essential Hypertension

Abstract:Objective To investigate the correlation of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM)constitution types with atherosclerosis in middle and old aged patients with essential hypertension(EH).Methods Ninety eight patients with EH were selected.The carotid artery intima media thickness(IMT)were detected by color doppler ultrasonography.TCM constitution classification were observed by reference to the TCM constitution classification scale.Results The constituent ratio in hypertensive patients was lower than non hypertensive patients.The pathologic constitution besides qi depression type in hypertensive patients were higher than in non hyper-tensive patients,especial y in qi deficiency type and damp heat type.The frequency of gentle type was highest,fol owed by wet and heat type,qi deficiency type,phlegm wet type,yang deficiency type,yin deficiency type,blood stasis type,qi depression type,special talents type.The plaque detection rates of damp heat type,phlegm wet type,yang deficiency type were higher.Conclusion The main influencing factors of TCM constitution were damp heat type,phlegm wet type,yang deficiency type in patients with EH.
