Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of sodium aescinate (SA)on inflammatory cytokines in rats with cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (CI/R)injury.Methods Rat model of CI/R was prepared by four vessel occlusion for 10 min fol owed by 12 hour reperfusion.Rats were then randomly divided into 5 groups (n=10),namely sham group, model group,SA high, medium and low dose groups (10,20 and 40 mg/kg).Drugs were i.p.administered once a day for 3 days before the operation and once 1 hour after the operation, respectively. The levels of tumor necrosis factor α(TNF α),interleukin (IL) 1βin brain tissue homogenate were measured by ELISA after 12 hour reperfusion.Resluts The neurological behavior scores in SA high dose group and SA medium dose group were lower than that in model group(P<0.05).The levels of brain TNF αin SA groups were significantly lower than that in model group (P<0.05).The levels of brain IL 1βin SA high dose group and SA medium dose group were lower than that in model group(P<0.05).Conclusion SA pretreatment can inhibit inflammatory cytokines in brain tissue in rats with CI/R injury.
