Abstract:Objective To investigate the relationship between 24 hour ambulatory blood pressure variability(BPV)and serum homo-cysteine(HCY)in patients with essential hypertension(EH).Methods 24 Hour ambulatory blood pressure and HCY were measured in one hundred and forty eight EH patients and forty cases of healthy individuals who were chosen as control group.24 hour mean systolic blood pressure(SBP),24 hour mean diastolic blood pressure (DBP),standard deviation of SBP(SSD),standard deviation of DBP(DSD)and HCY were calculated. Results The levels of SBP,DBP,SSD and HCY in patients with EH were higher than that in control group(P<0.01).In EH group, the level of SSD was positively related with HCY(P=0.000)and LDL C(P=0.038).The lev-el of DSD was positively related with HCY(P=0.024)and LDL C(P=0.042).Conclusion Such BPV indexes as SSD and DSD are significantly related with HCY in EH patients.Reducing BPV indexes and HCY is important to al eviate the damage to target or-gans and to decrease the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with EH.
