The Influence of Buyang Huanwu Decoction on Prognosis and Serum Growth Differentiation Factor 15 Levels in Patients with Acute Cerebral Infarction

Abstract：Objective To investigate the effects of Buyang Huanwu decoction(BHD)on the prognosis and the levels of serum growth differentiation factor 15(GDF 15)in patients with acute cerebral infarction(ACI).Methods Ninety patients with ACI were random-ly divided into two groups:The control group(n=45)treated with routine treatment,and the treatment group(n=45)treated with BHD plus routine treatment.The levels of serum GDF 15 were detected using ELISA pre and post treatment.Modified Rankin Scale(MRS)was used to evaluate the severity pre treatment and after 1 month and 3 months of treatment.Results The levels of serum GDF 15 were positively correlated with MRS scores post treatment (treatment group: r=0.419,P=0.004;control group: r=0.495,P=0.003).There was a statistical y significant difference in serum GDF 15 levels between two groups post treatment (P<0.05).The total clinical effective rate were 80% and 84% in treatment group,which was significantly higher than that in control group after 1 month and 3 months of treatment(57% and 62%,P<0.05).Conclusion The serum GDF 15 level is correlated with the se-verity of ACI in patients with ACI.BHD can decrease the serum GDF 15 level and improve the prognosis in patients with ACI.
