Influence of Elevated Serum Homocysteine Level on Cardiac Structure in Middle old Aged Patients with Hypertension

Abstract：Objective To observe the effects of elevated serum homocysteine(Hcy)level on cardiac structure in middle old aged pa-tients with hypertension.Methods One hundred and twenty two patients were enrol ed and divided into the control group and hyper-homocysteinemia group by serum Hcy level .The parameters of the ultrasound cardiogram of the heart were detected.Results A sig-nificant positive correlation was observed between the Hcy and interventricular septal(IVS),IVS/posterior wal thickness (PWT)(r= 0.267 and 0.266,P<0.01).IVS and IVS/PWT in hyperhomocysteinemia group were higher than that in control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Elevated Hcy may be involved in the hypertrophy of the left ventricle of hypertension.
