Abstract:Objective To investigate the relationship between the levels of monocyte chemoattractant protein 1 (MCP 1)and insulin resistance (IR)in patients with phlegm and blood stasis type of metabolic syndrome (MS)complicated with coronary heart disease (CHD).Methods Levels of serum MCP 1 and insulin were measured by enzyme linked immunosorbent method in phlegm and blood stasis type of 16 MS patients,17 MS complicated with CHD patients and 14 healthy controls.Other information on the conven-tional clinical features of MS,such as waist circumference, fasting blood levels of glucose and fat, were col ected and homeostatic model assessment (HOMA) IR were calculated. Results There was significant difference of MCP 1 among healthy controls(58.71 ng/mL±16.15 ng/mL),subjects with MS(77.83 ng/mL±17.64 ng/mL)and subjects with MS complicated with CHD (89.15 ng/mL±22.92 ng/mL).There was significant difference of HOMA IR among healthy controls(1.02± 0.15),subjects with MS(1.75± 0.98)and sub-jects with MS complicated with CHD (1.60± 0.89).Pearson correlation analysis results suggested that MCP 1 and waist circumfer-ence,hypertension were positively correlated.HOMA IR and MCP 1,diabetes,hypertension,high sensitivity C reactive protein (hs CRP)were positively correlated.Logistic regression analysis indicated that there was statistical y significant relationship be-tween MCP 1 and waist circumference,HOMA IR.Conclusion The levels of MCP 1 was highest in patients with phlegm and blood stasis type of MS complicated with CHD and increased in patiens with MS,which were significantly correlated with HOMA IR. This indicated that IR existed both in MS and CHD,IR caused by MCP 1 might promote the progress of AS which contributing to de-velopment of CHD from MS.
