Abstract:Objective To investigate the relationship betwe en serum homocysteine(Hcy)levels and stroke severity and subclassifica-tion in young patients with acute cerebral infarction. Methods The serum Hcy levels in 332 patients of 18 to 45 years old with acute cere-bral infarction(ACI)were measured by enzyme linked immtmosorbentassay(ELISA),and they were grouped according to CISS subclassification and National Institutesof Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS).The patients between al the subclassification and 179 healthy controls of 18 to 45 years old were compared. Results The serum Hcy levels in patient group were significantly higher than those in control group[(19.07± 10.83 )μmol/L vs (7.48± 3.68)]μmol/L.The serum Hcy levels in light, medium, heavy stroke group were (16.26± 6.37)μmol/L,(20.81± 6.21)μmol/L,(24.88.46± 6.49)μmol/L,and the different of groups were statistical y signifi-cant.No futher significantly difference was foud among different subclassification. Conclusion The serum Hcy levels increased in young patients with ACI,it closely related with the occurrence of cerebral infarction, and could be used to be a indicator to determine the severity of ACI.No futher significantly difference was foud among different subclassification.
