Long term Follow up of Unprotected Left Main Coronary Artery Stenting in Elderly Type 2 Diabetes
Abstract:Objective To evaluate long term results in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes undergoing percutaneous coronary in-tervention for unprotected left main coronary artery disease. Methods Eighty five elderly patients (aged 70 or older, diabetes group,n=39;control group,n=46)with unprotected left main coronary artery (ULMCA)stenosis underwent drug eluting stent (DES)were evaluated. The occurrence of major adverse cardiac events (MACE,death, nonfatal myocardial infarction, and target lesion revascularizations)were recorded after two years of follow up.Results Baseline characteristics were similar between the 2 groups except that fasting blood glucose, diabetes group showed a higher prevalence of multiple vascular lesions (P<0.01).There was no statistic difference between diabetes patients and non diabetes patients in the MACE rate (diabetes group 36.07% vs control group 29.31%,P>0.05).Conclusion PCI for unprotected left main coronary artery in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes Compared with elderly patients without diabetes did not increase the risk of cardiovascular events. The long term survival suggested that PCI in the elderly patients with type 2 diabetes was safe and efficacious.
