Syndrome of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Cognitive Function in Patients with Vascular Cognitive Impairment
Abstract:Objective To explore the Syndrome differentiation of traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)in patients with vascular cognitive impairment (VCI)in different periods and different types. Methods The patients diagnosed as ischemic stroke with the scores of Hackinski (HIS)≥7 were included. All patients were separated into two group according to Mini Mental State Examina-tion (MMSE):Control group (MMSE score≥27)and the VCI group (MMSE score<27).And the VCI group was separated into vascular cognitive impairment not dementia (VCIND)subgroup and vascular dementia subgroup (VD)according to Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR)and the clinical diagnosis criterion. The cognitive state, capacity of daily living, and Syndrome of TCM in 6 6 patients with VCI and 42 control subjects were measured with Cognitive Rating Scale for clock draw text (Clox),Alzheimer’s Disease Assess-ment Scale Cognitive section (ADAS Cog),Activity of Daily Living (ADL),and syndrome scale of TCM,Respectively. Results The frequency of deficiency of spleen and kidney(DSK)and blood stagnant in cerebral venation syndrome(BSCVS)in VCIND group were 55.9%,38.2% respectively. The frequency of DSK and BSCVS in VD group were 50.0%,31.2% respectively. No significant difference in the syndrome of TCM was found among three groups. The scores of MMSE and CLOX2 were significantly less than that in patients with BSCVS in VCI patients (P<0.05).The scores of ADL in patients with DSK were significantly higher than that in pa-tients with BSCVS in VCI patients (P<0.05).No significant variance was found in other scales between patients with DSK and pa-tients with BSCVS.Conclusion The main syndrome differentiation of TCM in patients with VCI was DSK and BSCVS.The cognitive function of DSK was declined much more than that of BSCVS.
