Flow study of five strand billet caster tundish with numerical simulation and particle image velocimetry

Abstract：In this paper , numerical simulation of tundish flow with the factory of rectangular billet continuous casting machine by using the commercial software ANSYS is carried out , flow speed test of the tundish is get through water model with test platform that established by China National Heavy Machinery Research Institute Co., Ltd..The research results show that velocity field obtained by particle image velocimetry has much more detail with numerical simulation of the time averaged velocity field , tundish internal vortex motion is large , the overall speed is relatively uniform , speed values is 0.03~0.05 m/s, the liquid steel in tundish temperature drop within 13 ℃.
