Water model simulation research of critical hot metal depth in the tunish

Abstract：According to the size of real tundish used by a Steel -making plant,the model was made in proportion to 1 ∶3.A theoretical foundation of the water model simulation is Froude number between real tundish and the model tundish achieves match.The critical depth which the water surface level up the nozzle appears eddy was mensurated under the different conditions,which include different slab width such as 1450mm,1200mm,1000mm and different casting speed correspondingly in practice.So a series of the critical hot metal depth under the real condition were deduced according to the similitude principle.The research results can be used in practice for preventing the tundish slag into the mould and improving the quality of the slabs.
