Clinical Significance of Platelet-to-White Blood Cell Ratio in Predicting Preeclampsia

Abstract:Objective:To explore the predictive value of the platelet-to-leukocyte ratio(PWR),an inflammatory indicator in peripheral blood, for preeclampsia(PE).Method:A total of 112 pregnant women with PE who underwent prenatal examination and gave birth at Linyi Women and Children Health Hospital from January 2023 to October 2024 were selected as the experimental group, the control group consisted of 52 healthy pregnant women who were hospitalized during the same period. The platelet-to-white blood cell ratio(PWR),platelets(PLT),white blood cells(WBC),neutrophils(N),and lymphocytes(L)of the two groups were detected and compared. The predictive value of the above blood cell parameters for PE was evaluated using the ROC curve, and their predictive ability for the risk of PE was explored.Result:The experimental group showed significantly lower PWR and PLT counts, but higher WBC and N counts, compared to the control group, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).There was no statistically significant difference in lymphocyte counts between the two groups(P>0.05).The results of ROC curve analysis showed that the areas under the curves of PWR,PLT,WBC,and N for predicting PE were 0.755,0.708,0.630,and 0.608 respectively, and the sensitivities were 49.10%,44.60%,91.10%,and 63.40%respectively.The specificities were 88.46%,86.54%,61.50%,and 38.50%respectively,and the optimal cut-off values were 20.54,188×109/L,8.00×109/L,and 7.41×109/L respectively.Binary logistic regression analysis revealed that PWR,PLT,and WBC were independent risk factors for PE occurrence(P<0.05).Conclusion:Compared with healthy pregnant women, the counts of PWR and PLT in the peripheral blood of PE patients are lower, while the counts of WBC and N are higher.PWR,PLT,WBC,and N have certain predictive value for PE,and PWR,PLT,and WBC are independent risk factors for the occurrence of PE.
