Abstract:Objective:The purpose of this study is to explore the clinical application value and efficacy profiles of percutaneous vertebroplasty(PVP)in the management of senile osteoporotic thoracolumbar vertebral compression fractures(OVCFs).Method:Through retrospective analysis method,86 elderly patients with OVCFs admitted to the Changzhou Jintan District Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January 2023 to December 2024 were selected as the observation objects.According to the treatment methods, they were divided into a control group(43 cases treated with conventional reduction method)and an observation group(43 cases treated with PVP,including 29 cases of unilateral PVP and 14 cases of bilateral PVP).The vertebral body recovery,Oswestry Disability Index(ODI)score,Visual Analogue Scale(VAS),clinical efficacy, and complication rate of patients in each group before and after treatment were compared.Result:Upon completion of the 3-month treatment, comparisons between the two groups revealed that the observation group had significantly greater improvements in vertebral conditions, such as anterior edge height, posterior edge height, midline height and Cobb angle, than the control group, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).ODI and VAS scores declined notably in both groups after 3 months of treatment, and the observation group obtained significantly lower scores in both items than the control group, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).The observation group also had a significantly higher total effective rate than the control group, with a statistically significant difference(P<0.05).However,the comparison of complication rates between the observation group and the control group yielded no statistically significant difference(χ2=0.453,P=0.501).Conclusion:PVP has a remarkable effect in the treatment of OVCFs in the elderly. It can not only significantly relieve patients'pain symptoms but also lead to a more ideal recovery of dysfunction.
