Abstract:Objective:To investigate the effect of laparoscopic appendectomy on the recovery of gastrointestinal function and postoperative pain in elderly patients with appendicitis.Method:Sixty patients with senile appendicitis admitted to Chishui Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine,Guizhou Province from October 2020 to October 2023 were selected as the study objects and divided into the control group(30 cases, undergoing open appendectomy)and the observation group(30 cases, undergoing laparoscopic appendectomy)by the random number table method. The comparisons were performed on postoperative recovery of gastrointestinal function, perioperative indicators, postoperative pain, and complications in both groups.Result:The observation group obtained better postoperative recovery of gastrointestinal function than the control group(P<0.05).The observation group had less intraoperative blood loss, shorter operation time, and shorter hospitalization time compared to the control group(P<0.05).The observation group showed lower visual analogue scale(VAS)scores after leaving the room immediately, postoperative 6 h VAS scores and postoperative 24 h VAS scores compared with the control group(P<0.05).The observation group expressed higher WHOQOL-BREF scores than the control group after operation(P<0.05).The observation group demonstrated lower overall incidence of postoperative complications compared to the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion:Compared with traditional open appendectomy, laparoscopic appendectomy for elderly patients with appendicitis can better promote postoperative recovery, alleviate postoperative pain, accelerate the recovery of gastrointestinal function after surgery, reduce the risk of complications, and improve the quality of life of patients.
