The Effect of Catgut Embedding at the Beiyu Acupoint on Sleep Quality and Serum 5-HT and DA Levels in Patients with Sub-Health Status of Insomnia

Abstract：Objective:To explore the application value of catgut embedding at the Beiyu acupoint in patients with sub-health status of insomnia.Method:80 patients with sub-health status of insomnia who visited Lianyungang Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from October 2022 to October 2024 were selected as the research subjects and divided into two groups according to the random number table method,with 40 cases in each group.The patients of control group were administrated routine western medicine,and on this basis,the patients of observation group additionally took catgut embedding at the Beiyu acupoint.The sleep quality,serological indicators,negative emotions and quality of life of the two groups were compared.Result:The comparisons of sleep quality,serological indicators,negative emotions and quality of life in both groups before treatment showed no statistical difference(P>0.05).The observation group had lower scores of Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI),dopamine(DA),Self-Rating Anxiety Scale(SAS),and Self-rating Depression Scale(SDS),higher 5-hydroxytryptamine(5-HT)and the psychology of World Health Organization Quality of Life Scale(WHOQOL-100)compared with the control group after treatment(P<0.05).Conclusion:Catgut embedding at the Beiyu acupoint can improve the sleep quality of patients with sub-health status of insomnia,alleviate negative emotions,and enhance the quality of life.
