Abstract:Objective:To investigate the effects of autologous corneal limbal stem cell transplantation on visual acuity and tear film function in pterygium.Method:90 patients with pterygium admitted to Putian Ophthalmology Hospital from January 2022 to January 2024 were randomly selected, with 45 patients in each group. The control group underwent pterygium excision surgery, while the study group received autologous corneal stem cell transplantation treatment on the basis of the control group. The clinical efficacy, preoperative and postoperative tear film function indicators[tear secretion test(SIT),tear film rupture time(BUT)],visual function indicators(corneal horizontal curvature, corneal horizontal vertical curvature, refractive error, uncorrected visual acuity),and incidence of postoperative complications between two groups were compared.Result:Compared with the control group, the total effective rate of the study group after surgery was higher(P<0.05).After surgery, both groups had significantly higher levels of SIT and BUT compared to before surgery(P<0.05).Compared with the control group, the study group had higher levels of SIT and BUT after surgery(P<0.05).After surgery, the corneal horizontal curvature, corneal horizontal vertical curvature, and uncorrected visual acuity of both groups were higher than before surgery, while the refractive error was lower than before surgery, with statistically significant difference(P<0.05).Compared with the control group, the study group had higher corneal horizontal curvature, corneal horizontal vertical curvature, and uncorrected visual acuity after surgery, but lower refractive error(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the incidence of postoperative complications between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion:Autologous corneal stem cell transplantation can achieve significant results in the treatment of pterygium patients, helping to promote postoperative visual and tear film function recovery. The surgery is safe and reliable.
