Abstract:Objective:To investigate the value analysis of mean corpuscular volume(MCV),mean corpuscular hemoglobin content(MCH)and MCV/MCH values combined with hemoglobin(Hb)electrophoresis for the assessment of thalassemia in pregnant women.Method:The clinical data of 500 pregnant women who underwent examination in Fuzhou First General Hospital Affiliated to Fujian Medical University from January 1,2021 to December 31,2024 were retrospectively analyzed. All pregnant women received genetic testing on admission and were divided into thalassemia group(n=233)and non-thalassemia group(n=267)based on the results of genetic testing. Both groups received MCV,MCH and Hb electrophoresis. The diagnostic efficacy of MCV,MCH and MCV/MCH values combined with Hb electrophoresis for thalassemia in pregnant women was analyzed using genetic testing as the gold standard, and the differences in indicators between the two groups were analyzed.Result:The results of genetic testing showed that there were 233 thalassemia pregnant women(46.60%)and 267 non-thalassemia pregnant women(53.40%).MCV,MCH and Hb electrophoresis values were lower and MCV/MCH values were higher in the thalassemia group than in the non-thalassemia group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).The accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of the combined diagnosis were 96.20%,97.00%,95.51%,94.96%,and 97.33%,respectively.Conclusion:MCV,MCH,and MCV/MCH values combined with Hb electrophoresis are accurate and reliable in the assessment of thalassemia in pregnant women and provide strong technical support for health management during pregnancy.
