Abstract:Objective:To explore the clinical efficacy of modified cough suppressant in the treatment of chronic cough and its influence on lung function.Method:80 patients with chronic cough admitted to Xianning Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from December 2022 to November 2024 were selected as the research subjects and divided into the Western medicine group and the traditional Chinese medicine group according to the random number table method, with 40 cases in each group. The Western medicine group was given the conventional Western medicine therapy(Compound choline Tablets),while the traditional Chinese medicine group was treated with modified cough suppressants on the basis of the treatment of the Western medicine group. The TCM symptom scores,Mandarin Chinese version of the Leicester Cough Questionnaire(LCQMC)scores, inflammatory factor indicators[interleukin-4(IL-4),tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),interferon-γ(IFN-γ)],pulmonary function indicators[forced vital capacity(FVC),peak expiratory flow rate(PEF),forced expiratory in the first second]before and after treatment were compared between the two groups.Changes in the proportion of volume to total expiratory volume(FEV1/FVC)and adverse reactions.Result:The total effective rate of the traditional Chinese medicine group was higher than that of the Western medicine group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).After treatment, the symptom scores of cough, sputum volume, fatigue, chest tightness and shortness of breath, the levels of IL-4 and TNF-α in both groups decreased, and the traditional Chinese medicine group was lower than the Western medicine group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).After treatment, the LCQ-MC scores,IFN-γ,FVC,PEF,and FEV1/FVC levels in both groups increased, and the levels in the traditional Chinese medicine group were higher than those in the Western medicine group, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups, and the difference was not statistically significant(P>0.05).Conclusion:The modified Zhike Powder has a definite therapeutic effect on chronic cough. It is conducive to the quick resolution of cough symptoms, reduces the inflammatory response of the body, improves lung function, and the adverse reactions are mild.
