Investigation on the Carrying Rate of Thalassemia in Premarital Examination

Abstract:Objective:To investigate the carrying rate of thalassemia in premarital examination in Luchuan County of Guangxi,to analyze the methods and clinical significance of premarital screening of thalassemia.Method:18 276 cases of premarital examination population in Luchuan County from January 2014 to January 2015 were selected,they were given routine blood test,and the detection results of MCV,MCH,RDW were analyzed.Result:Among the 18 276 cases of premarital examination population,4068 cases were detected thalassemia phenotype positive,accounting for 22.3%,which including 500 cases of couples who were both positive.The sensitivity of MCV or MCH screening alone was lower than that of united screening,the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05). The sensitivity of MCH screening alone was better than that of MCV screening alone,the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion:The carrier of thalassemia in Luchuan County is more,the MCV,MCH joint screening method can improve the sensitivity.Strengthening the premarital medical examination can help find the couple both carrying thalassemia.Through detection and prenatal diagnosis of thalassemia gene further to reduce the incidence of birth defects.
