Abstract:Objective: To compare the value of Procalcitonin (PCT)and C-reactive protein (CRP) in the assessment of the severity of community acquired pneumonia.Method: 50 cases with community acquired pneumonia of community were selected in our hospital from October 2013 to October 2014 ,they were divided into low group (12 cases), moderate group(23 cases) and severe group(15 cases) according to the pneumonia severity index (PSI), compared the three groups of serum PCT and CRP levels and with the PSI score.Result:The severe group, the serum PCT and CRP was higher than those of moderate and low group, and moderate group was higher than the low group, but PCT level among the three groups had significant difference(P<0.05), the differences in the level of CRP had no statistical significance(P>0.05); the PCT and PSI score was significantly correlated(P<0.05); CRP and PSI score had no correlation(P>0.05).Conclusion: The sensitivity of serum PCT in patients with community acquired pneumonia is higher than that of CRP, which can be used as an important indicator of disease assessment.
