Additional Steel Plate and Bone Graft in the Treatment of Bone Nonunion after Intramedullary Nail Fixation for Femoral Fractures

Abstract:Objective:To explore the clinical effect of additional steel plate and bone graft in the treatment of bone nonunion after intramedullary nail fixation for femoral fractures.Method:16 patients with bone nonunion of non-infectious after intramedullary nail fixation for femoral fractures from January 2010 to March 2014 were selected.The original fixed intramedullary nail was retained,7-11 holes ordinary pressure plate or locking plate were added,at the same time with autogenous iliac transplantation,and the clinical effect was observed.Result:All 16 patients were followed up for 6 to 24 months,in an average of 16 months. The X ray film review showed all the osseous healing,the rate of postoperative healing rate was 100%.The healing time was 6-14 months(mean 7.5 months),no complications such as internal fixation failure,fracture,infection were observed within the follow-up period.Conclusion:Additional steel plate and bone graft in the treatment of bone nonunion of non-infectious after intramedullary nail fixation for femoral fractures is ideal methods,the clinical effect is satisfactory.
