Abstract:Objective:To investigate the clinical efficacy of vertebroplasty of old and fresh compression fractures in elderly patients.Method:A total of 274 cases of aged osteoporotic thoracolumbar compression fractures from January 2010 to December 2012 in our hospital were selected as the observation objects. These patients were divided into the old fracture group(n=100) and the fresh fracture group(n=174) according to the fracture time.Indicators of patients in the two groups were compared, including height of the vertebral body compression, the spinal anterior kyphotic Cobb angle, and the pain visual analogue scale(VAS) score before and after the treatment.Result:All patients in the two groups recovered well, and didn’t have serious complications.Compared with indicators before the operation, indicators after the operation in the two groups improved significantly(P<0.05),including anterior vertebral compression height, recovery rate, kyphosis Cobb angle, and correction rate. That in the fresh fracture group improved more than that in the old fracture group significantly(P<0.05).Compared with VAS before the operation, VAS of patients in the two groups after 3 days and one month were significantly decreased(P<0.05).VAS of patients in each group after 3 days and one month were significantly different(P<0.05).But there were no significant differences between that in two groups after 3 days and one month (P>0.05).Conclusion:Vertebroplasty in the treatment of old and fresh compression fractures in elderly patients has better effect, can effectively restore the height of anterior vertebral compression, correct kyphosis angle, and relieve pain of patients, especially has better efficacy of fresh vertebral compression fractures.
