Comparison of the Effects of Routine Episiotomy and Selective Episiotomy in Primiparas

Abstract:Objective:To compare the effects of routine episiotomy and selective episiotomy on maternal and neonatal outcomes in primiparas. Method:389 primiparas were divided into routine episiotomy group and selective episiotomy group,of which,various background factors and outcomes were statistically compared.Result:There was no significant difference in background factors of age,gestational weeks,oxygen augmentation,analgesia and neonatal weight,as for outcomes,there were no significant difference was found in 2 nd stage duration,postnatal bleeding,soft tract injuries and neonatal asphyxia,but routine episiotomy group had more postnatal bleeding and prolonged in-hospital duration than selective episiotomy group(P<0.05).Conclusion:Selectively and individually episiotomy is better than routinely episiotomy.
