The Changes and Significance of Serum 25-OH Vitamin D Level in Type 2 Diabetes Patients
Abstract:Objective:To examine the 25-hydroxy vitamin D(25-OH VitD) concentration of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM),and the association of 25-OH vitamin D concentration with beta cell function and insulin resistance.Methods:90 patients of T2DM and control group with age matched and 86 normal glucose tolerance were randomly recruited.Their height, weight were measured and recorded.Their fasting serum and plasma sample were also collected for the measurement of serum lipids, plasma glucose, serum insulin.Insulin homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) and function of βcell (HOMA-β) were also assessed.25-OH VitD were measured in liquid chromatography/mass-spectrometric method and the concentrations in both groups were compared. Results:The level of 25-OH VitD in T2DM group were significantly lower than those in control group(P=0.03).The level of 25-OH VitD were correlated with HOMA-β(r=0.4,P=0.03),but not with HOMA-IR(r=-0.08,P=0.59).Conclusion:Patients of T2DM are lack of 25-OH vitamin D and the deficiency may influence islet β cell function.
