Research on the update design of public spaces in old residential areas based on spatial syntax and POI data

Abstract：The article takes the public space of Biluo Mountain Villa in Xuzhou City as the research object.Based on the spatial syntax theory,Depthmap software is used to construct its axis and line segment models,and ArcGIS 10.8 software is used to analyze the point of interest(POI)kernel density.The results show that the public space of Biluo Mountain Villa faces issues such as low comprehensibility,scattered structure,weak centrality,and uneven distribution of POIs.Based on this,an updated design strategy is proposed:dismantling illegal constructions and widening major traffic streets,optimizing street coherence and create node space,and optimizing business layout.The research aims to enhance the integrity and utilization of public spaces,increase commercial attractiveness,and provide a reference for the renewal design of public spaces in old residential areas.
