Abstract:The nighttime outdoor lighting environment of healthcare buildings plays a crucial role in supporting patient recovery and overall physical and mental well-being.However,current lighting standards for medical facilities provide limited guidance, and practical design often lacks systematic attention to user experience and needs. This paper takes the Gansu Provincial Maternal and Child-Care Hospital project as a case study and adopts the Evidence-Based Design(EBD)approach to examine user-centered requirements throughout all stages of lighting design-from fixture selection and construction detailing to parameter settings and maintenance management. The study identifies four critical design dimensions essential for nighttime healthcare lighting environments:aesthetics appeal, wayfinding effectiveness, glare control, and appropriate brightness and color temperature.Through a subjective preference survey conducted at key lighting nodes, the study verified the effectiveness of several lighting design strategies, including emphasizing architectural fa çade coherence, adopting distant landscape lighting, and utilizing low-level roadway illumination. This research establishes a hospital outdoor lighting design process grounded in evidence-based design(EBD).This framework provides both practical reference and theoretical support for optimizing nighttime lighting environments in healthcare architectures and offers a reference for the development of relevant design standards.
