Abstract:China's aging population is becoming increasingly serious, and the issue of age-friendly housing is prominent.Inadequate lighting environments increase the risk of elderly individuals falling during nighttime trips. This study surveyed 60 households with individuals aged 65 and above, investigating the basic conditions of nighttime trips, behavior characteristics, evaluation of nighttime lighting environments, and the visual impacts on elderly individuals. The results show that a high proportion of elderly individuals feel uncomfortable with the lighting environment in their bedroom and bathroom during nighttime trips.Specifically,66%of elderly individuals find the bedroom lighting too glaring, and 56%report difficulties seeding the floor during nighttime trips. This study provides recommendations for improving the nighttime lighting environment quality for the elderly and reducing the risks caused by lighting factors, offering a reference for further scientific research and lighting design for age-friendly nighttime lighting environments.
