Influence of Short Highway Tunnel Lighting Environment on Driver's Physiology

Abstract：The safety of tunnel traffic is closely related to the quality of tunnel lighting. But the lower bound for the short tunnel lighting is different from place to place. In order to study the influence on driver in different short highway tunnel lighting environment,eye tracking and physiological instrument is used to record the driver's physiological data. The analysis perspectives include heart rate increase, fixation duration,saccade size and pupil area. The result shows that when driving in short tunnel with normal lighting,the physiological parameters are better than the tunnel without lighting. It means that when a driver driving in a tunnel which sets lighting,the degree of psychological discomfort,anxiety and tension is less than that of tunnel without lighting. Lighting is favorable for safe driving.
