Abstract:For the purpose of photocatalytic decomposition of trimethylamine ( TMA ) , we present a flat reactor coated with nanoscale TiO2 thin film of catalyst on the inner surface using a ultraviolet light-emitting-diode lamp ( UV-LED, peak wavelength 367. 4 nm, half width 7. 2 nm ) as light source and with a UV fluorescent-lamp ( UV-FL, peak wavelength 354. 2 nm, half width 37. 4 nm) as a control. With this reactor, we experimentally investigated the effects of initial concentration, relative humidity, oxygen concentration on the removal efficiency of TMA. The advantages of TMA removal efficiency of UV-LED over UV-FL are discussed. The results show the TMA removal efficiency, carbon balance, production rate of CO2 and CO under the radiation of UV-LED are higher than that of UV-FL with same irradiance. The removal efficiency decreases with the increase of initial concentration of TMA. It demonstrates that UV-LED can take the place of UV-FL in the field of photocatalytic decomposition of TMA. The relative humidity 20% is optimal for both light sources. The intermediate products are analyzed for photocatalytic degradation of TMA.
