Abstract:Office employees spend the majority of daytime hours in the buildings in which they work. In high-density urban areas, offices are relatively deep with low ceilings due to the site conditions, structural demands and policy/economic constraints. 20 office spaces were surveyed and 190 occupants of 16 group or open-plan offices completed questionnaires in order to seek the relations between sleep quality, fatigue, pleasure, arousal and distance to the nearest window. The results show clear correlations between two sleep quality items- ‘feel refresh or not’ , ‘fall asleep easily or not’ and ‘distance to window’;being closer to windows were beneficial to office occupants ’ sleep quality. Fatigue and pleasure was not significantly associated with ‘distance to window ’ . Only one arousal item- ‘sleepy ’ showed the clear correlations to‘distance to the window’ .
