Abstract：This article introduces the latest color rendering index CRI 2012 with the purpose of replacing the current index CRI proposed by CIE in 1964.In this article, the background, calculation method and main conclusions of CRI 2012 will be presented .Some examples of different types of light sources are used to illustrate the influence of CRI 2012 in color rendering evaluation .
