LED and OLED Devices Compare in Lighting Application and Industry Development

Abstract：The fourth generation lighting-semiconductor lighting ( light emitting diode , LED) and the fifth generation lighting-organic lighting ( organic light emitting diode , OLED ) technologies have both entered the era of industrialization and commercial production .This paper reviewed the history of LED and OLED development , especially the evolution of their application in lighting industries .The authors conducted computer simulation analysis on OLED lighting panels from a leading manufacturing company and compared the resulted lighting effects with that of a sample LED lamp .On the other hand , cost to produce OLED panels as well as the LED lamp was also discussed .In the end of this paper , based on these cost and effectiveness analysis and the current industry development status , the authors provided perspectives on outlook of the LED and OLED lighting industry and gave future development proposals aiming to benefit all the related parties in the advanced lighting industry .
