Abstract:Objective To explore the risk factors for convulsions in children with viral encephalitis and meningi-tis,and propose targeted nursing strategies accordingly. Methods A retrospective case-control study was conducted, involving 112 children with viral encephalitis and meningitis admitted to Putian Children's Hospital from January 2023 to June 2025.They were divided into an observation group(40 cases with convulsions)and a control group(72 cases without convulsions)based on the occurrence of convulsions.Clinical data from both groups were collected and compared.Uni-variate analysis was performed on potential risk factors, and variables with statistical significance were included in a mul-tivariate Logistic regression analysis to identify independent risk factors for convulsions. Results Univariate analysis revealed that the proportions of children with fever duration≥3 days, maximum body temperature≥39℃,disturbance of consciousness, positive meningeal irritation signs, positive pyramidal tract signs, and abnormal electroencephalogram(EEG)were significantly higher in the observation group than in the control group(all P<0.001).Multivariate Logistic regression analysis further confirmed that fever duration≥3 days(OR=4.256,95%CI:2.134~8.489),maximum body temperature≥39℃(OR=3.568,95%CI:1.823~6.983),disturbance of consciousness(OR=5.127,95%CI:2.568~10.236),positive pyramidal tract signs(OR=4.875,95%CI:2.432~9.772),and abnormal EEG(OR=5.678,95%CI:2.845~11.332)were independent risk factors for convulsions in children. Conclusion Prolonged fever duration, high fever, disturbance of consciousness, positive py-ramidal tract signs, and abnormal EEG significantly increase the risk of convulsions in children with viral encephalitis and meningitis. In clinical practice, enhanced early iden-tification,intensive monitoring, and anticipatory nursing care targeting these high-risk factors should be implemented to prevent convulsions and improve prognosis.
