Impact of Bundle Care Protocol on Recovery of Postoperative Severe Pneumonia in Esophageal Cancer Patients

Abstract：Objective To investigate the effect of the bundle care protocol on the recovery of postopera-tive severe pneumonia in esophageal cancer patients.Methods A total of 58 patients who underwent radical esophagectomy for esophageal cancer complicated by severe pneumonia at The First Affiliated Hospital of Xiamen University from December 2022 to December 2024 were enrolled.According to a random number table method,the patients were divided into two groups:the observation group(bundle care protocol,29 patients)and the control group(conventional care protocol,29 patients).The blood gas parameters,improvement time of clinical symptoms,treatment-related times,incidence of complications,and mortality were compared between the two groups.Re-sults Before the intervention,no significant differences were observed in PaO2,PaCO2,SaO2,and pH levels be-tween the two groups.After the intervention,PaO2,SaO2,and pH levels significantly increased in both groups,with a more significant improvement in the observation group(PaO2:P=0.001;SaO2:P＜0.001;pH:P＜0.05).PaCO2 levels significantly decreased,with a more pronounced decrease in the observation group(P＜0.05).Compared to the control group,the observation group showed significantly shorter times for cough resolution(P＜0.001),relief of dyspnea(P＜0.001),disappearance of lung rales(P＜0.001),mechanical ventilation(P＜0.001),ICU treatment du-ration(P＜0.001),and total hospital stay(P＜0.05).The observation group also had a significantly lower incidence of complications(31.03％vs.79.31％,P＜0.001)and mortality(0.00％vs.13.79％,P＜0.05)compared to the control group.Conclusion The bundle care protocol can effectively promote recovery in esophageal cancer patients with postoperative severe pneumonia,improve clinical indicators,reduce the incidence of complications and mortality,and shorten hospital stay.
