Experience in the Treatment of Mass Burns Combined with Inhalation Injury

Abstract：Objective To explore the key points of early first aid and comprehensive treatment for mass burn patients combined with inhalation injury.Methods Two batches of mass burn patients combined with inhalation in-jury were treated in Taizhou School of Clinical Medicine,Nanjing Medical University of Burn surgery from May 2024 to March 2025.There were 12 patients in total,including 9 males and 3 females,aged from 21 to 45 years.The patients were treated with comprehensive treatment measures such as early graded treatment,early preventive tracheotomy,lung protective ventilation strategy,restrictive fluid resuscitation,fine airway management,and dynamic anti-infection pro-gram.Results All patients were cured without serious pulmonary infection.One patient without tracheotomy was discharged 1 week after injury.The remaining 11 patients with tracheotomy were extubated 10 to 18 days after injury,and were discharged 12 to 20 days after injury.No obvious symptoms of airway stenosis were found in the later fol-low-up.Conclusions The condition of mass burn combined with inhalation injury is complex.Rapid diagnosis and first aid are achieved through rapid classification and grouping strategy,early establishment of artificial airway and lim-ited fluid resuscitation to prevent airway obstruction and pulmonary edema,protective lung ventilation strategy and fine airway management to improve oxygenation and keep airway patency are the key points of treatment.
