Abstract:Objective To explore the effectiveness of the unaccompanied ward care model in elderly pa-tients with intertrochanteric fractures. Methods This retrospective study selected 82 elderly patients with in-tertrochanteric fractures, admitted to the Trauma Department of Fuzhou Second General Hospital from December 2022 to January 2024.The patients were divided into the observation group(41 cases)and the control group(41 cases)based on whether they were assigned to the unaccompanied ward care model during their hospitalization, using propensity score matching. The differences between the two groups were compared in terms of function-al exercise adherence, improvement in activities of daily living(ADL)ability, patient satisfaction, total length of hospitalization,VAS(Visual Analog Scale)pain scores, incidence of complications, and fracture healing out-comes.Results The adherence to functional exercise in the observation group was significantly higher than that in the control group(87.8%vs.63.4%,P<0.05).The improvement rate in ADL ability was also significantly higher in the observation group(63.41%vs.39.02%,P<0.05).Patient satisfaction upon discharge was significantly higher in the observation group(P<0.001),and the total length of hospitalization was notably shorter(P<0.001).The aver-age VAS pain scores on the first day post-surgery and at discharge were significantly lower in the observation group(P<0.05).The complication rate in the observa-tion group(12.20%)was significantly lower than in the control group(29.27%).The rate of good fracture heal-ing(73.17%)in the observation group was significantly higher than in the control group(48.78%),with statistically significant differences between the groups(all P<0.05).Conclusion The unaccompanied ward care model can effectively improve functional exercise adherence, significantly enhance ADL ability, increase patient satisfaction, reduce complication rates and VAS pain scores, optimize fracture healing, shorten hospitalization time, and promote earlier recovery in elderly patients with intertrochanteric fractures. This model holds considerable clinical appli-cation value, though attention should be given to addressing potential negative issues and cost concerns during its implementation and expansion.
