Abstract:Objective To explore the effectiveness of the 7S management method in the management of phar-maceuticals,medical consumables, and medical equipment in the emergency critical care unit for pregnant and partu-rient women. Methods In April 2023,a 7S management team was established, and all team members underwent systematic training on the 7S management method to ensure they mastered the theoretical knowledge and application techniques. From June to December 2023,the 7S management principles, which include sorting, setting in order, shining, standardizing, sustaining, safety, and saving, were applied to the management of pharmaceuticals, medical consumables, and medical equipment in the treatment and instrument rooms.Data were collected on the time nurses spent retrieving items from the treatment and instrument rooms, the expiration rates of pharmaceuticals and consuma-bles,and nurses' satisfaction with the work environment before the implementation of the 7S management method(one month prior)and after its implementation(one month post-implementation).Results The time spent by nurses in retrieving items from the treatment and instrument rooms decreased significantly(P<0.05).After the implementation of the 7S management method, the quantity of expired pharmaceuticals/medical consumables, the number of items with expiration dates within 3 months that were not labeled, the number of items with expiration dates within 1 month that were not replaced, and the number of items that were not properly stored all decreased significantly(P<0.05).Additionally,the nurses' satisfaction with the work environment increased significantly after the 7S management im-plementation(50%vs.93.75%,P<0.05),with all differences showing statistical significance. Conclusion The 7S management method effectively reduces the time nurses spend retrieving items, improves the clinical nursing efficien-cy in the emergency critical care unit for pregnant and parturient women, and enhances nurses' satisfaction with their work environment.
