Abstract:Objective To investigate the impact of enhanced terminal disinfection on the incidence of multid-rug-resistant(MDR)bacterial infections in the Intensive Care Unit(ICU).Methods A total of 30 patients admitted to the ICU of Jianhe County People's Hospital from January 2024 to June 2024 were selected as the control group. From July 2024,enhanced terminal disinfection was implemented, and 30 patients admitted between October 2024 and February 2025 were selected as the observation group. The incidence of MDR bacterial infections,hospital-related indicators, and microbial contamination of environmental surfaces and air after disinfection were compared between the two groups. Results No patients in the observation group developed MDR bacterial infections(infection rate 0.00%),which was significantly lower than the control group, where 4 patients developed MDR bacterial infections(infection rate 13.33%),P<0.05.The observation group also demonstrated significantly shorter hospital stays, shorter duration of antimicrobial drug use,and lower antimicrobial drug costs compared to the control group,P<0.05.Addi-tionally,the observation group exhibited significantly lower colony counts on environmental surfaces and in the air,as well as higher compliance rates for environmental surfaces and air compared to the control group,P<0.05.Conclu-sion Enhanced terminal disinfection significantly improves disinfection efficacy in ICU settings, reduces the risk of MDR bacterial infections, shortens patients'hospital stays, and reduces medical costs.
