Abstract:Objective To analyze the correlation between serum N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide(NT-proBNP)levels and prognosis as well as hospital stay duration in pediatric sepsis patients. Methods A to-tal of 108 pediatric sepsis patients admitted to Tongren City People's Hospital from May 2022 to October 2024 were selected for this study.Based on the severity of sepsis, the patients were divided into two groups:septic shock group(n=22)and sepsis group(n=86).According to the survival status, the patients were further divided into the death group(n=13)and the survival group(n=95).Clinical data were collected upon admission, and serum NT-proBNP levels were measured.NT-proBNP levels, hospital stay,Pediatric Risk of Mortality(PRISM Ⅲ)scores,Pediatric Critical Illness Score(PCIS),and their correlations with NT-proBNP levels were compared between different se-verity groups and prognosis groups.Pearson correlation analysis was performed to analyze the relationship between serum NT-proBNP levels and PRISM Ⅱ score,PCIS,and hospital stay duration. Results Compared to the sepsis group, the septic shock group showed sig-nificantly higher NT-proBNP levels(P<0.001),longer hospital stays(P<0.05),higher PRISM scores(P<0.001),and lower PCIS scores(P<0.001).Compared to the sur-vival group, the death group had significantly higher NT-proBNP levels(P<0.001),shorter hospital stays(P<0.001),higher PRISM scores(P<0.001),and lower PCIS scores(P<0.001).Pearson correlation analysis revealed that in the survival group, serum NT-proBNP levels were positively correlated with the PRISM Ⅱ score(r=0.782,P<0.001)and length of hospital stay(r=0.417,P<0.05),and negatively correlated with the PCIS score(r=-0.731,P<0.001).In the death group, serum NT-proBNP levels were positively correlated with the PRISM Ⅱ score(r=0.782,P<0.001),and negatively correlated with the PCIS score(r=-0.731,P<0.001)and length of hospital stay(r=-0.717,P<0.001).Conclusion In pediatric sepsis patients, measuring serum NT-proBNP levels can help assess the severity and prognosis of the condition.Higher NT-proBNP levels are associated with shorter hospital stays and higher mortality, providing valuable reference for treatment planning.
