Abstract:Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effect of a combined treatment using methylprednisolone and azithromycin injection for severe Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection in children, and to assess its practical outcomes. Methods A total of 60 pediatric patients diagnosed with severe Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection, admitted to the Pediatric Department of Sinnan County People's Hospital from November 2022 to November 2024,were included in the study. These patients were randomly divided into two groups through a randomization process. The observation group received a combination therapy of azithromycin and methylprednisolone, while the control group received intravenous azithromycin alone. Each group consisted of 30 patients.Various parameters, including inflammatory markers, clinical efficacy, time to symptom resolution, and pulmonary function, were compared and analyzed between the two groups. Results Following treatment, both groups showed a significant reduction in inflammatory markers, such as IL-6,TNF-α,and CRP,with the observation group demonstrating more pronounced decreases compared to the control group(P<0.05).The total effective treatment rate was notably higher in the obser-vation group than in the control group(P<0.05).Furthermore,the observation group experienced a shorter duration for symptom improvement compared to the control group(P<0.05).Post-treatment,the observation group showed significantly higher FEV1/FVC ratios and FEV1 levels when compared to the control group(P<0.05).Conclu-sion The combination of azithromycin and methylprednisolone in the treatment of severe Mycoplasma pneumo-niae infection in children can effectively reduce inflammatory markers, improve clinical outcomes, shorten the time for cough and sputum relief, fever resolution, and lung rale disappearance, reduce hospitalization time, and enhance pulmonary function.
