Abstract:Objective To investigate the efficacy of adenoidectomy in children with secretory otitis media and its impact on sleep quality. Methods A retrospective analysis was performed on the clinical data of 48 chil-dren diagnosed with secretory otitis media who were treated at Xiamen Maternity and Child Health Hospital from July 2022 to July 2024.Based on the treatment approach, patients were divided into an observation group(adenoid-ectomy,n=24)and a control group(conservative treatment,n=24).Clinical efficacy, hearing, sleep quality, quality of life, and incidence of complications were compared between the two groups. Results Compared to the con-trol group, the observation group exhibited a significantly higher overall clinical efficacy and a markedly lower total incidence of complications(P<0.05).Following treatment, both groups showed a significant reduction in pure-tone audiometry thresholds and various indicators of sleep quality(P<0.05),while the quality of life scores significantly improved in both groups(P<0.001).After treatment, the observation group demonstrated significantly lower scores in pure-tone audiometry thresholds, sleep onset latency, sleep efficiency, sleep quality, sleep duration, sleep distur-bances,use of sleep medications, and daytime functional disturbances compared to the control group(P<0.05).In contrast, the observation group had significantly higher scores in material well-being,physical health,psycholog-ical functioning, and social functioning(P<0.001).Conclusion For children with secretory otitis media,ade-noidectomy presents a superior clinical efficacy, effectively improving sleep quality and hearing, thereby enhancing overall quality of life, with a high safety profile.
