Observation on the symptom improvement and effectiveness of Jiechuan Tang combined with Doxophylline in patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

Abstract：Objective To investigate the efficacy of Jiechuan Decoction combined with Doxofylline in improving symptoms in patients experiencing acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD).Methods A prospective study was conducted involving 88 patients with acute exacerbations of COPD who were admitted to Qianxinan Prefecture Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital from January 2022 to June 2024.Patients were randomly assigned to either the observation group or the control group,with 44 patients in each group,using a random number table.The control group received treatment with Doxofylline,while the observation group received a combination of Doxofylline and Jiechuan Decoction.The two groups were compared on TCM syndrome scores,treatment efficacy rates,forced expiratory volume in one second(FEV1),FEV1/FVC ratio,levels of C-reactive protein(CRP),levels of procalcitonin(PCT),and the incidence of adverse reactions.Results The overall treatment efficacy rate in the observation group was 94.45％,significantly higher than that in the control group's 81.82％(P＜0.05).Prior to treatment,there were no statistically significant differences in TCM syndrome scores,CRP,and PCT levels between the two groups(P＞0.05).After treatment,the observation group showed significantly lower TCM syndrome scores,CRP,and PCT levels compared to the control group(P＜0.05).Before treatment,there were no significant differences in FEV1 and FEV1/FVC levels between the two groups(P＞0.05).Post-treatment,both groups exhibited significant increases in FEV1 and FEV1/FVC levels(P＜0.001),with the ob-servation group showing a more pronounced improvement in the FEV1/FVC ratio compared to the control group(P＜0.001).The incidence of adverse reactions did not differ significantly between the control and observation groups(P＞0.05).Conclusion The combination of Jiechuan Decoction and Doxofylline effectively im-proves symptoms and alleviates inflammatory conditions during acute exacerbations of COPD,demonstrating fa-vorable overall efficacy and safety.
