Abstract:Objective To investigate the impact of pulmonary rehabilitation training on respiratory function and exercise tolerance in elderly patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD).Methods Retro-spective inclusion of 70 elderly COPD patients who received treatment at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Guizhou Medical University from June 2023 to June 2024.According to the random number table method, they were named as the control group(35 cases)and the observation group(35 cases),respectively, which received pulmonary reha-bilitation training in addition to standard treatment. We compared respiratory function[maximum expiratory pres-sure(MEP),maximum inspiratory pressure(MIP),modified Medical Research Council(mMRC)dyspnea scale],exercise tolerance[6-minute walk test(6MWT)],quality of life[St.George's Respiratory Questionnaire(SGRQ)],and treatment efficacy before and after the intervention between the two groups. Results Prior to the interven-tion,there were no statistically significant differences in respiratory function, exercise tolerance,or quality of life between the two groups(P>0.05).After the intervention, the observation group demonstrated significantly higher MEP and MIP values compared to the control group, along with lower mMRC scores, indicating statistically signif-icant differences(P<0.05).The 6MWT distance in the observation group was longer than that in the control group, and the SGRQ scores were lower, also showing statistically significant differences(P<0.05).The clinical effective rate in the observation group was higher than that in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Implementing pulmonary rehabilitation training in elderly patients with COPD can significantly improve respiratory func-tion,enhance quality of life, and increase exercise tol-erance,demonstrating notable clinical efficacy.
