Abstract:Objective This study aims to investigate the clinical value of combined detection of serum pro-calcitonin,white blood cell count, and C-reactive protein in the diagnosis of neonatal sepsis. Methods A total of 70 neonates diagnosed with sepsis were selected from the Second Hospital of Zhangzhou,Fujian Province, from May 2021 to May 2024,constituting the sepsis group.Additionally,50 neonates with localized infections treated during the same period were selected as the non-sepsis group, along with 50 healthy neonates undergoing routine check-ups as the healthy control group.Clinical baseline data among the three groups were compared to identify differing indicators.Logistic regression analysis was employed to determine the independent risk factors for neo-natal sepsis. The diagnostic accuracy and value of serum procalcitonin, white blood cell count, and C-reactive pro-tein for neonatal sepsis were analyzed. Results The levels of procalcitonin, white blood cell count,C-reactive protein, and serum amyloid A in the sepsis group were significantly higher than those in both the non-sepsis and healthy control groups, with all differences showing statistical significance(P<0.001).Furthermore,the non-sepsis group exhibited significantly elevated levels of procalcitonin, white blood cell count,C-reactive protein, and se-rum amyloid A compared to the healthy control group, also with statistically significant differences(P<0.001).Hemoglobin and platelet levels in both the non-sepsis and sepsis groups were lower than those in the healthy control group, while fasting blood glucose levels were high-er,with significant differences noted(P<0.001).There were no significant differences in gestational age, sex, birth weight,or mode of delivery among the three groups(P>0.05).Multivariate logistic regression analysis identified el-evated levels of procalcitonin, white blood cell count, and C-reactive protein as independent risk factors for sepsis. The combined detection of serum procalcitonin, white blood cell count, and C-reactive protein yielded a diagnostic accuracy of 90.59%,with an area under the curve(AUC)of 0.957,both of which were superior to the individual detection rates of 77.06%,74.71%,and 78.82%,with AUCs of 0.882,0.870,and 0.846,respectively.Conclusion Elevated levels of procalcitonin, white blood cell count, and C-reactive protein are independent risk factors for the development of sepsis in neonates. The combined detection of these three biomarkers holds significant importance in the diagnosis of neonatal sepsis.
