Abstract:Objective To compare and analyze the application effects of different anesthesia methods in elderly orthopedic surgery. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 98 elderly orthopedic patients who underwent surgical treatment at Pingba District Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital in Anshun City,Guizhou Province from March 2020 to March 2024.The patients were divided into an observation group(epidural an-esthesia)and a control group(general anesthesia)based on anesthesia methods, with 49 patients in each group.Com-pare perioperative related indicators, cognitive and sleep status at different times, and incidence of complications be-tween two groups of patients. Results Compared with the control group, the observation group had a lower dosage of anesthesia(P<0.001).The observation group had significantly shorter eye opening time, language ability recovery time, surgery time, and hospitalization time compared to the control group(P<0.001).The Mini Mental Status Exam-ination(MMSE)scores of both groups decreased at 3 hours,6 hours,12 hours, and 24 hours after surgery;Compared with the control group patients, the MMSE scores of the observation group patients were higher at 3 hours,6 hours,12 hours, and 24 hours after surgery(P<0.05).The PSQI scores of both groups of patients decreased at 24 hours,48 hours, and 72 hours after surgery;Compared with the control group patients, the PSQI scores of the observation group patients were lower at 24 hours,48 hours, and 72 hours after surgery.Compared with the control group, the incidence of adverse reactions in the observation group was lower(4.08%vs.24.49%),and the difference was statistically signifi-cant(P<0.05).Conclusion For elderly orthopedic surgery patients, the epidural anesthesia regimen requires a low-er dosage of anesthetic drugs, which is beneficial for postoperative physical function recovery, with minimal impact on patients'cognitive function and sleep quality, and high safety.
