Abstract:Objective To explore the efficacy of standardized emergency measures combined with radio-therapy and chemotherapy in patients suffering from dyspnea due to superior vena cava syndrome(SVCS)caused by malignant tumors. Methods Ninety patients with dyspnea resulting from malignant tumor-induced superior vena cava syndrome were selected from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangdong Medical University between January 2022 and January 2024.Patients were randomly assigned to either the study group(standardized emer-gency measures+radiotherapy and chemotherapy,n=45)or the control group(conventional emergency meas-ures+radiotherapy and chemotherapy,n=45)using a lottery method. We compared the two groups regarding blood gas parameters, quality of life(Karnofsky Performance Status,KPS),size of target lesions, clinical efficacy, and safety. Results Before treatment, there were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in carbon dioxide partial pressure(PaCO2),oxygen partial pressure(PaO2),oxygen saturation(SpO2),KPS scores,or target lesion sizes(P>0.05).After treatment, the study group showed a significant reduction in PaCO2,along with significant increases in PaO2 and SpO2.Additionally,the study group exhibited a greater reduction in PaCO2 and more pronounced increases in PaO2 and SpO2 compared to the control group(P<0.05).Both groups demonstrated significant improvements in KPS scores(P<0.001)and reductions in target lesion sizes(P<0.001);however,the study group showed significantly greater increases in KPS scores and more substantial reductions in lesion sizes compared to the control group(P<0.001).The total effective rate in the study group was significantly higher than that in the control group(P<0.05).During the treatment period, the incidence of adverse reactions in the study group was significantly lower than that in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Standardized emergency measures combined with localized radiotherapy and synchronous chemotherapy can effectively improve dyspnea caused by malignant tumor-induced superior vena cava syndrome, reduce lesion size, enhance treatment efficacy, and demonstrate favorable safety profiles.
