Abstract:Objective To evaluate the value of serum procalcitonin(PCT)levels in assessing the condition and prognosis of patients with sepsis. Methods 52 sepsis patients admitted to Qiandongnan Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital in Guizhou Province from March 2022 to April 2024 were selected as the observation group, and 50 healthy individuals who underwent physical examinations during the same period were selected as the control group. We compared the serum PCT levels,APACHE Ⅱ scores, and SOFA scores of sepsis patients, healthy indi-viduals undergoing physical examinations, and patients with different degrees of sepsis, and analyze the evaluation value of PCT levels,APACHE Ⅱ scores, and SOFA scores on the severity and prognosis of sepsis. Results The PCT level in sepsis patients was significantly higher than that in healthy individuals undergoing physical examina-tion,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.001).Compared with patients with mild sepsis, patients with moderate sepsis have higher PCT levels(P<0.001),APACHE Ⅱ scores, and SOFA scores(P<0.001);Com-pared with patients with moderate sepsis, patients with severe sepsis have higher PCT levels(P<0.001),and higher APACHE Ⅱ and SOFA scores(P<0.001).The ROC curve shows that PCT levels have a greater predictive value for the 4-week mortality rate of sepsis patients. Conclusion The detection of PCT levels is beneficial for the early diagnosis of sepsis, assisting in assessing the severity and prognosis of the condition, and guiding clinical treatment.
