Abstract:Objective To explore the relationship between acute gastrointestinal injury (AGI) grading and the level of plasma diamine oxidase (DAO) in patients with severe multiple trauma. Methods 48 patients with severe multiple trauma were divided into mild trauma group [injury severity score (ISS) ≤ 16, 26 cases] and severe multiple trauma group (ISS score > 16, 22 cases) according to ISS score. Another 10 healthy people were selected as the control group. Venous blood was collected once for the control group, and that of other two groups were collected three times in 24, 72, and 120 h after injured respectively. The concentration of plasma DAO was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. AGI grading was conducted at corresponding timing, and correlation analysis between plasma DAO and AGI grading was then processed. Results For the detection data of plasma DAO, there was significant interaction between time factor and treatment factor (P < 0.01). Compared with the control group, the DAO levels in the mild trauma group and the severe trauma group were both increased obviously in 24 h after trauma (P<0.01), and were higher in the severe trauma group than in the mild trauma group (P<0.01). Gradually the DAO level decreased and recovered to normal in 120 h after injured, the difference between mild trauma group and control group was not significant (P > 0.05), but DAO level of severe trauma group was significantly higher than that of control group (P < 0.01). The level of plasma DAO were both highly relevant to the degree of gastrointestinal dysfunction in 24, 72, 120 h. Conclusions DAO level has a certain clinical significance in evaluating the severity of trauma and AGI grading in patients with multiple trauma.
